Finally… Album News!
My angst about Bo’s debut album is completely gone after reading this article on the MTV website today. According to MTV, Bo will be working with artists such as former Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody, Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger (see discography) and Richie Sambora, who has apparently submitted a new song for the album. The producers list features no mention of Demond Childs, which is cause for celebration, but does include such major producing talent as Grammy-winner John Shanks (see discography), the great Howard Benson (discography), and veteran rocker Marti Frederikson (discography).
So, I think it’s safe to say that Bo won’t be getting any Kelly Clarkson/Clay Aiken cast-offs. This is a truly heavy-hitting line-up. So, how does Bo describe his album?
“It’s a little bit of everything,” the “Idol” runner-up said of his music so far. “People will see my mellow, acoustic side on a couple songs, then my crazy Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny Winter, jammy-type stuff, then really groovy ’70s rock, revisited with a modern touch. And with some genuine lyrics about my life and things I see around me.”
Bo is recording in Nashville, where he is now living. Moody, Kroeger and Sambora have submitted songs for the album, including a Sambora/ Shanks tune called “Remember Me” that is among Bo’s favorites.
Bo also says he has been co-writing with his hero Ricky Medlocke of Lynyrd Skynyrd, who apparently is one cool cat (tm Bo) and, since no interview would be complete without some words of wisdom Bo-style, here’s his take on changing and growing:
“Put yourself in a pond and over time it’s going to get stagnant and become a cesspool,” he explained. “A river flows, it’s ever-changing. You can make a curvy river straight over a million years. And it’s not what’s on top going down the river, it’s those grooves in the bottom. But let’s not be ponds. Let’s keep growing.”
Dude, I totally don’t know what you’re saying, but I love you anyway.

Hey Lulu — thanks for pulling this together. I really enjoyed following all the links about the producers. Wasn’t it great to read Howard Benson’s comments about keeping the emphasis on the singing (and your finger off the blender button).
“Most people listen to music in the background, or in a car, while they’re talking, or with the windows are open. Or they’re hearing it from afar, or in a stadium, or whatever, and that’s not stereo, you know? No one’s even hearing the guitars or the drums there. They’re just hearing the singing. So it’s up to the producer to make sure that the big picture is taken into account. That’s something that can easily get lost in the studio. It’s so much fun to make records, you know? There’s so many buttons and switches and knobs and amps and guitars, you know? The gear is unbelievable.”
Peace

[...] Reaction to the MTV Bice article is now up on the MTV site: Thanks for the story on Bo Bice and his upcoming album (see “Bo Bice Working With Ben Moody, Members Of Nickelback, Bon Jovi, Skynyrd For LP”). It sounds incredible. Bo is an authentic, talented performer with rock and soul coursing through his veins. I already know what I want for Christmas. [...]

[...] Kara Dio Guardi and Marti Frederiksen also wrote a song called The Real Thing, published by BMI. Dio Guardi has written for Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, and Gwen Stefani. She co-wrote the song Michelle Branch sang with Santana on All That I Am. Frederiksen was mentioned in the MTV article as one of Bo’s producers. Since writers often produce their songs, it’s much more likely that this is the song that the one on the CD, as cris-crossed so reassuringly pointed out to us. [link] [...]
