This song shuffled up on my ipod today, and I had to go dig up the video. This was such an iconic performance from Bo. Sitting still on bench, in a drab t-shirt, singing a song released 25 years before most of the audience was born. In pain from his freshly broken foot, losing weight and frightened by his worsening stomach issues. But he poured all of that into the song and made it beautiful. By the end of the first verse, Bo had every one of those 10,000 people in his hand and on their feet.
The professional critics gave Bo props for Desperado: “The fans stood, danced and screamed along with him. He might possibly be the only person in the world who can make 7-year-old girls rock out to hard-rock oldies.” “His whiskey-soaked vocals did justice to the Eagles’ Desperado.” But I think the anonymous woman standing next to the camera said it best – “Wow, he’s good!”
